Monday 1st June; Alice Springs first pre-run

Rider and team manager

Is it going to survive the distance! We drove out on the race track to find a good place to stop. Found a good spot which is 16.5 km out on the road. We took Roy & bike back down towards the beginning of the track where it looked like it was a good place for the drop off to head South.

We took off South to meet him before he left but in the end he got to the stopping place before we did. He was already waiting there for us and, when we got there with the car, he was looking very happy with himself and enthusiastic about the Bike’s capability to make the race.

We boiled the kettle and had a cup of tea and a bit of cake, got the rider back into his civvies and headed back into Alice Springs for lunch. We swapped bikes over to the modern one for a real test ride this afternoon. 30C today! A 64.6 km test ride North then back to our cabins for a bit of a rest. Then we jumped into Graeme’s car and headed out to the juicy rump restaurant at the casino where we enjoyed fish and chips and salad. An unusually warm night compared to previous years when we’ve frozen while eating out there.
