Scrutineering night
Early afternoon was taken up with making sure the bike was all ready for scrutineering, ticking off the list getting serial numbers etc. Then about 3 o’clock we headed up to the track separately from the crew as we would have to stay there till the end of the evening with the bike, and arrived at the racetrack. We parked up next to our friends Rich and his ‘Hammer’ crew and unloaded the bike; pushed it up to the scrutineering queue. The gates didn’t open until 3.30 so we all stood around and chatted and lots of people came up and admired the vintage 1978 Yamaha bike that we are riding this year. At 3:30 the gates opened and the queue slowly started to move but it took awhile. When we got closer, someone came to collect our sheet and check it and wanted to know why we hadn’t put a serial number on for the bike helmet which of course was because we couldn’t find a serial number. So because of that they had to put us through proper scrutineering and look at everything which meant I had to race back to the car and grabbed boots and all the rest of the protective kit and gear so that they could all be scrutineered. Race back to the car and grabbed it all and it was really heavy but struggled back to the queue. Roy met me halfway and we raced up and got everything past through scrutiny. While we were doing that a small camera crew up came up and wanted to interview Roy about the vintage bike that he was riding. I talked to them afterwards to find out when it might go to air or what they were going to do with the interview and they are putting together a short chapter for a TV Series creek to Coast. I also joined up to their Facebook site to find out when it was likely to go to air. Which apparently should be sometime in August. After Scrutineering, the bike was lined up with all the other bikes and all the rest of the gear was returned to the car. We wandered around the open area up by the racetrack. Lots of people were pouring in for the event to have a look at all the cars and bikes, food trucks and lots of other tents with bikes and things for people to look at; well-known celebrities to sign posters etc.
Come 8;30 we were lined up ready to leave!
